Guildford Christmas Mediaeval Banquets 22nd and 23rd November 2013 This Christmas, the Saxon town of Guildford will host unique Christmas Mediaeval Banquets Join us on 22nd and 23rd November, where you are cordially invited by the Lord and Lady of Misrule to two mediaeval banquets at the historic Guildford Guildhall, dining from a very special menu with a full evening of mediaeval entertainment and dancing Food historian and chef Stuart Peachey will be serving up a mediaeval feast like no other. This 24 course feast will include such delicacies as roast venison, roast pork with currant sauce, haggis, pease pudding, egg and crystallised-fruit pie and dates with minced ginger. Stuart is a renowned authority on period food, he has written more than 40 books on the subject, and has been cooking in manor houses, castles and cathedrals throughout Britain for 35 years. He also runs 3 farms to provide ingredients no longer commercially available. Think a mediaeval Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall Throughout the evening, you'll observe the traditions of the Twelfth Night, the major Christmas celebration during the Middle Ages. This celebration will be presided over by the Lord and Lady of Misrule, whose banquets are famed throughout the land for their outrageous party games. Expect these to include customary gifting to the household, competitions, forfeits and prizes. Add to this live music, storytelling and plenty of mediaeval dancing, and you have a Christmas feast you will never forget.
