From the producer of In The Heights and the creative team behind Carousel at the Arcola, Bat Boy: The Musical promises to be a love child like no other. Bat Boy: The Musical is inspired by a story run by The Weekly World News, an American tabloid who published fabricated stories which were purported to be factual, describing the discovery of a creature who is 'half human and half bat'. Bat Boy ran as a cover story on 23 June 1992 and was the second-best selling issue in the paper's history, instantly becoming a pop-culture icon. Bat Boy: The Musical won New York's Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Off-Broadway Musical in 2001. It received its UK premiere in 2004 at West Yorkshire Playhouse prior to a West End run at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
