When the great British pop institution that was The Beautiful South split in 2007, several members of the band just weren't ready to let it go. So two years later, singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, alongside lifelong members Damon Butcher (keyboards), Gaz Birtles (sax) and Tony Robinson (trumpet), came out of retirement and formed the nine-piece band The South.

Promising that if the fans didn't want it, they wouldn't do it, The South embarked on their journey. But the fans certainly did want it… and they still do. And those classic songs live on. Songs like A Little Time (the band’s Number 1 hit single, sung by Dave Hemingway),Perfect 10RotterdamOld Red Eyes is BackGood as GoldDon't Marry Her… all the hits, all performed live, just as they were from 1989 onwards.

And five years on, The South now have their debut album Sweet Refrains under their belt. A self-financed labour of love, it combines their own brand of irresistible pop melodies with twists of caustic wit and opens another new chapter in the story started by The Beautiful South.

Support comes from Devon singer-songwriter Tristan MacKay, whose 2012 debut albumOut Along the Wire was a stirring and rapturously-received collection of blues-tinged gems… think James Morrison meets John Mayer, with a dash of Eric Clapton
