More information about Neil Cowley Trio tickets
Following 2012's triumphant, roof-raising show with a 30 piece string ensemble, Neil Cowley Trio return to the Barbican; jumping headlong into new territory to present material from their new recording, Touch and Flee, released in June on Naim Jazz.
For this new release, classically trained Cowley returns to his beloved trio setting, to compose a collection of tunes that demand attention and shine a bright spotlight on the ever-increasing brilliance of Cowley as a composer. Described by Cowley himself as "our concert hall record", this is their bravest and most daring album to date and marks a genuine evolution in the band. Although a change of direction, Cowley's electric personality and unmistakable sound are unwavering.
Shifting, expansive, melodies, elegant and exquisitely graceful movements meet with dark haunting passages; pulse, power, spaciousness, and then, gentle surprise.
Masters of intoxicating and powerfully moving shows, the Neil Cowley Trio deliver muscular anthems alongside delicate passages of heart-shattering beauty.
Performing with his long-time compatriots, Evan Jenkins on drums and Rex Horan on bass, this Barbican show promises an utterly compelling experience, and is their only London show in 2014. A £2.75 transaction fee applies (this will be added to your order on the payment page)
NEIL COWLEY TRIO
Sunday 11 August 2013
The Neil Cowley Trio is not your typical jazz trio.
A dazzling composer, pianist Cowley creates deeply engaging, and dynamic music that journeys between poetic and poignant, pomp and splendour to powerful rip-roaring riffs.
It is instrumental music that references Debussy and Steve Reich as much as Spiritualized and Arcade Fire, and is powerful enough to break down standard perceptions of genre. Its sheer emotion and energy will touch lovers of all music.
