Join us as we shine a light on one of Manchester's most stunning venues for classical music - Albert Hall, a forgotten Wesleyan chapel opposite the former Free Trade Hall on Peter Street, Manchester. Grieg's Holberg Suite is a perennial favourite, a suite of five movements based on eighteenth century dance forms, awash with charming melodies. We are joined by Christian Ihle Hadland, one of Norway's most exciting young pianists, for the final Mozart concerto of the season, no.12, an early work performed here with just string orchestra. Rodion Shchedrin's memorable work for strings and five percussionists is a reworking of Bizet's Carmen - think all Bizet's tunes dressed in differently coloured clothes - dramatic, entertaining and incredibly witty.
