The Boys were born in September 1975 when singer/guitarist Matt Dangerfield left Mick Jones and Tony James’s fledgling punk band London SS to form a new band with ex-Hollywood Bratssongwriter/keyboard player Casino Steel. Dangerfield’s art college friend, guitarist Honest John Plain, was soon recruited. The following year they held auditions for the bass and drum roles with Duncan Reid and Jack Black completing the line-up. The Boys quickly built up a reputation as a white-hot live band and in January 1977 became the first punk band to sign an album deal when they signed away their recording lives to NEMS. They quickly became known as ‘The Beatles of Punk’ but unfortunately through a series of poor marketing, bad decisions and appalling luck they never converted their potential to chart success.

After a brief spell in The Lurkers, Plain joined the Dirty Strangersand recorded an album with Keith Richards and Ronnie Woods before replacing Brady (Hollywood Brats) as lead guitarist in The Mannish Boys. He went on to play with Brady in Brat Boy. In 1996 Plain’s first solo album “Honest John Plain and Friends” was released. “Honest John Plain and Amigos” followed in 2003 and he formed a new band with Robbie Rushton (Crybabys) and Mat Sargent (Sham 69, Splodge). Honest John Plain & The Amigos’ debut album “One More And We’re Staying” came out in 2006 with a French tour lined up to promote it.

At the beginning of 2007 Plain and his old friend Casino Steel agreed to form a new punk supergroup to play Ramones-influenced rock ‘n’ roll with a hint of Dolly Parton. The result was The Last Rock ‘n’ Roll Band featuring Plain’s Amigos Mat Sargent & Robbie Rushton alongside Petter Baarli (Backstreet Girls) and of course Steel & Plain. Their self titled debut album was released in October 2007. Plain released his first acoustic album “Honest John Plain Untuned” on Still Unbeatable Records in Germany in 2009 and this was followed in 2010 by “The Mattless Boys”, featuring Casino Steel, Petter Baarli, Duncan Reid, and Vom Ritchie.
