2014 has already been a busy year for Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo and there are no signs of it quietening down any time soon… with a special limited edition vinyl release for Record Store Day, and Emily writing her first score for a feature film starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen due in UK cinemas later this year, they have now announced a UK tour for November.

Songs Beneath The River is a special release for Record Store Day, a limited edition 10" vinyl. Recorded at Mark Ronson's Zelig Studios in London, it features four covers of songs which inspired the writing and arrangements on the band's lauded Dear River album.

Touring with their core line-up, Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo features Emily Barker on vocals and guitar, Gill Sandell on accordion, piano and flute, Anna Jenkins on violin and Jo Siverston on cello and bass. They will be supported on all dates by acclaimed Swedish singer/songwriter Christian Kjellvander. Emily met Christian on one of her many trips to Sweden - here's a video of her cover of Christian's beautiful song When The Mourning Comes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rYC80vZsx4

‘ambitious and beautifully wrought’ Q

“This is a dream of a record. A new Marling, then? No, Barker offers something else..."BBC Music editor’s choice (Feb 2011)

Hailing from Bridgetown, Western Australia, Emily Barker is a compelling songwriter with a gift for weaving melody and words. Her talent is perfectly complemented by the magnificent arrangements of her band The Red Clay Halo, whose rootsy ensemble playing underpins Barker’s agile vocal blend of strength and fragility

The achingly beautiful ‘Pause’ from the album is the theme tune to BBC 2’s gripping TV drama TheShadow Line starring Christopher Ecclestone. And ‘Nostalgia’, from Emily’s second album ‘Despite The Snow’, is the Bafta-winning theme tune to BBC1’s Wallander, starring Kenneth Branagh
