It’s been a hugely impressive start to 2014 for Darlia. The Blackpool trio followed their introductory Queen of Hearts EP with a crunching first single,Candyman, clocking up hefty rotation on Radio 1 and heading out on two sold-out UK tours, alongside support slots with The Family Rain and The Orwells.
The brainchild of front man Nathan Day, Darlia evoke memories of classic ‘90’ US grunge bands, but give it an almighty injection of heady melody to bring that impactful sound right up to date. It’s not a genre that we've become accustomed to hearing on British radio, but Nathan and Darlia demand to be setting the precedents and not part of the chasing pack.
Formed in the head of their front man as a teen, barely 20-years-old Nathan is a musician who has been plotting and planning this moment for longer than he can remember. A combination of isolation at school, shyness, and anxiety meant that Nathan wasn't big on communication until music came into his life (originally banned by his parents from listening to, let alone performing it). Forming the band with the only other musician he knew, Jack Bentham, and discovering bassist Dave Williams quite by accident, Darlia now have a wealth of material to draw upon.
